Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) extract (HSE) could improve the metabolism of fat, and then help with the weight management. There’re plenty of studies which have demonstrated its function.
HSE inhibits the adipocyte differentiation through the modulation of PI3-K/Akt and ERK pathway that play pivotal roles during adipogenesis1. Its effect of blocking adipogenesis, in part, is by its suppression on the expression of adipogenic transcription factors2.
The oral intake of HSE can reduce the weight gain in obesity mice3.
Also HSE has been added into the weight-management product. When it is used with other herbal extracts, just like phaseolus, gymnea, green teaand apple, obvious reduction on weight, BMI(body mass index)and BF(body fat) compared to the placebo group could be seen4.
In addition, hydroxycitric acid(HCA) in the extract could suppress both appetite and the formation of fats and cholesterol in the liver in animal experiments. Taking HCA can result in an increase in LDL receptor activity in liver cells that can pull LDL cholesterol out of circulation.
